An exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the drama that redefined fantasy Boys’ Love, with insights straight from its stars.
In GMMTV’s daring and stylish foray into vampire-themed Thai Boys’ Love drama, My Golden Blood, audiences were captivated not only by the show’s mythical plot and atmospheric visuals, but by the electric on-screen chemistry between its leads, Gawin Caskey (Tong) and Joss Way-ar (Mark). Off-screen, that bond is just as authentic—and in this interview, the actors open up about everything from their musical collaboration to near-mishaps on set and their hopes for future roles.
Introducing The Vampires – Tong and Mark (Gawin and Joss)
When asked to introduce themselves, Gawin keeps it simple: “Hi, my name is Gawin. I played Tong.” Joss adds warmly, “My name is Joss Way-ar, and I played Mark.” Right from the start, their easy camaraderie shines through.

Music as a Language of Emotion
Both actors contributed to the original soundtrack, performing solo tracks and duets that echo their characters’ journeys. Gawin shares his deep connection to expressing his character through music. “I feel very comfortable expressing my character through music because I like music,” he says. “I like to play music, and I like singing, so that’s really my natural way of expressing myself.” He also says, “I just felt connected to the character when he expresses himself that way throughout the series.”
Joss, on the other hand, humbly credits the team behind the songs: “I have to give the credit to the songwriter, honestly, and to the producer P’Amp and P’Sin for writing the lyrics. I’m just singing. I just do the part of singing, honestly. But I think they did a really good job portraying our characters’ feelings. I think the songs, all three of them, are written beautifully, and I just feel very grateful that I get to sing them.”
Solo Tracks
Their solo tracks carry distinct emotional weight. Gawin explains his approach to “Closer”: “I approached it by really connecting with the feeling of being lost and then finding something or someone that brings you back to life. The song is about going through a dark place and suddenly seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, and that really aligns with how my character feels in the series.” Meanwhile, Joss describes the sincerity he aimed for in “Just You”: “I really wanted to tap into Mark’s mindset, his vulnerability and sincerity… when I was recording, I tried to focus on keeping the emotion raw and honest, to make the audience feel that purity and intensity.”
Looking ahead, the duo expresses excitement about exploring new musical styles together. Joss envisions something lively: “Something fun, you know… like ‘Sweet but Naughty’… very upbeat… just for the event to entertain the crowd.” Gawin shares his own rock-infused dream: “I kind of want to do a rock song with him, maybe in that genre. It would be something different from what we used to do… I personally like rock music – I play guitar – I play a little bit of bass and drums.”

What Drew Them to My Golden Blood
The unique fusion of BL and vampire lore was a big draw for both actors. Gawin admits the initial appeal was the opportunity to work with Joss, but the concept sealed the deal: “I just felt like it was really fresh for GMMTV to do this. I saw it as something new that we both could explore together.” Joss reveals a longtime fascination: “Vampires, I’ve always liked vampire series and movies… I felt like it would be cool for me to be a vampire in the series.”
Building Chemistry On and Off Screen
Fans have been raving about the palpable chemistry between Gawin and Joss, which they credit to both preparation and personal connection. Joss recalls the long wait before filming began: “We had almost a year before the series started… getting to know Gawin, what he’s like in person, what kind of person he is… I think we both take our acting jobs very seriously… that helped a lot.”
Gawin adds that much of the magic happened in the moment: “Most of the stuff you saw in the film was actually the first time we did those scenes together. I think the bonding off set really helped us… Even though, as an actor, you should be able to play with anyone, you really trust that person more if you know them.”
Challenging Roles and Growth
Both actors found their characters pushed them into new territory. Gawin reflects on portraying Thong’s innocence and curiosity: “He’s like a kid in a bubble since he was born an orphan… I really had to kind of dig in on how that makes him feel about certain things in life.” Joss, meanwhile, speaks about Mark’s protective nature and calm demeanor shaping him: “Being there, going through all the scenes and emotions as Mark… definitely made me understand a little more what it’s like to take care of someone.”

A Dynamic Duo
Their working relationship is built on balance. Joss describes it as a “push and pull” dynamic: “My energy is pushing forward… and Gawin is more like pulling, because sometimes I can push things way too fast and forget to enjoy the present moment.” Gawin agrees, noting how they help each other in both acting and music.
Surprises and Laughter
The actors also shared some surprises about each other. Joss admits, “Gawin might seem like a chill guy… but when it comes to music and acting, he takes it very seriously.” Gawin chuckles about Joss’s softer side: “You see him as… kind of a serious guy… but he’s really outgoing… and actually a really funny guy sometimes.”
A memorable behind-the-scenes moment? Joss recalls almost falling off a jet ski during filming, “We almost crashed into the sea… but Gawin grabbed me… I thought he was trying to save me… but it turns out he was just trying to save the equipment.” Gawin laughs, “The equipment was really expensive… He’s swimming, he’s fine, he’s a big boy.”
Future Projects and Dreams for Joss & Gawin
Both actors express openness to working together again, with a twist. Gawin hopes to “switch up our dynamics and our genre a little bit,” perhaps playing rivals next time. Joss jokes, “No, I’m done. I don’t wanna work with him anymore… Just joking! Yeah, rivals sound great.”
They also share ambitions to try new roles: Gawin is drawn to playing a “psycho character, like a crazy guy in a thriller,” while Joss finds himself interested in action roles involving martial arts or police work.

A Message for the Fans from Gawin & Joss
Finally, the actors took a moment to thank the fans. Joss candidly shares, “I thought I knew what I was getting myself into, but the amount of love and support that I’ve received is insane… I hope that I can help them become more confident and happy, just like they did for me.” Gawin echoes the sentiment: “You guys are the whole reason why we’re doing all of this… You make us want to be better people… We really want to entertain you in the best form and the best way that we can.”
With such heartfelt dedication, it’s no wonder My Golden Blood has become a standout favorite. Fans can look forward to more from this talented pair, both on screen and through their music.
