IS:SUE Brings Power, Passion, and Purpose to KCON LA

Emerging from the fierce competition of PRODUCE 101 JAPAN THE GIRLS, Japanese girl group IS:SUE is quickly establishing itself as a bold new presence in the J-pop and global music scene. The quartet โ€” Nano, Rino, and Yuuki (with a fourth member absent from this interview) โ€” have turned their once-competitive rivalry into a tight-knit team dynamic, delivering performances filled with intensity, meaning, and heart.

IS:SUE perform at KCON LA for the first time

With support from their agency, LAPONE Entertainment, IS:SUE recently took the stage at KCON LA. This marks a major step in their international debut. For these rising stars, it was more than just a performance โ€” it was a dream fulfilled.

โ€œI had always dreamed of being surrounded by 360ยฐ KCONers, which is unique to KCON LA,โ€ said Yuuki, reflecting on the moment she stepped onto the stage. โ€œJust being able to stand on that stage was a huge honor.โ€ She added that even fans unfamiliar with the group offered warm and enthusiastic support. This is a sign that IS:SUEโ€™s appeal is truly global.

Nano echoed that sentiment, recalling the โ€œincredibly energeticโ€ atmosphere at the venue. โ€œThere were probably a lot of people who were seeing us for the first time, but I remember feeling really happy that they stayed with us until the end and got into it with us,โ€ she said. โ€œIโ€™m filled with gratitude.โ€

Introduction of a new track

To commemorate the occasion, IS:SUE introduced something special: the English version of their track โ€œBreaking Thru the Lineโ€, performed for the first time on the KCON stage. The set also included a standout choreography segment featuring handheld microphones and a powerful dance break โ€” a highlight that underscored the groupโ€™s live performance strength.

Their identity

While their stage presence is undeniable, itโ€™s IS:SUEโ€™s message that may leave the most lasting impression. Their name โ€” a clever blend of the English word โ€œissueโ€ and the Japanese concept of โ€œdifferent breedsโ€ โ€” symbolizes the group’s mission to embrace individuality and challenge norms.

โ€œWe want to convey the message that you shouldn’t be afraid of being different from others, because you are never wrong,โ€ explained Nano. โ€œAnd I want people to believe in themselves above all else, no matter what.โ€

Rino added that IS:SUEโ€™s identity is rooted in celebrating what makes each person unique. โ€œLike the phrase โ€˜not wrong, just different,โ€™ I hope to convey through our music that you are unique and irreplaceable, and that you have special value just as you are.โ€

The groups connection

That mindset isnโ€™t just reflected in their music โ€” itโ€™s woven into the group dynamic. After competing individually on PRODUCE 101, the members of IS:SUE have since formed a deeply collaborative bond. According to Yuuki, the groupโ€™s connection has grown to feel like family. โ€œOur relationship has developed into something like sisters,โ€ she shared.

Each member brings her own strength to the team. Yuukiโ€™s commanding dance presence is amplified by her height and powerful movement. Rino, who shines in vocal performance, thrives in live settings, where she can interact with fans and shape the energy of the room. Nano, meanwhile, acts as the groupโ€™s emotional center โ€” bringing light and optimism behind the scenes. โ€œItโ€™s my natural cheerfulness,โ€ she said. โ€œI value creating a good atmosphere within the team.โ€

The IS:SUE dream!

Looking ahead, the members of IS:SUE have their sights set on more than just short-term success. They envision a legacy โ€” one that spans continents and carries a message of empowerment.

โ€œI want to perform at more music festivals overseas as well as in Japan,โ€ said Yuuki. โ€œWhile always keeping the spirit of โ€˜not wrong, just different,โ€™ I want us to be recognized worldwide as a Japanese girl group that continues to explore new horizons.โ€

Rino dreams of arena tours and solo concerts in iconic venues like Tokyo Dome. Meanwhile, Nano hopes to connect with international fans through global tours and more overseas stages.

SHINING

Their latest song, โ€œSHINING,โ€ encapsulates much of what IS:SUE stands for: self-worth, resilience, and inner light. โ€œI want to share the importance of having confidence in oneself and the right to choose what one loves, no matter the circumstances,โ€ said Nano. Yuuki described the songโ€™s message as a reminder that everyone is like a diamond โ€” growing stronger and more radiant through every challenge.

From their polished performances to their powerful messages, IS:SUE is more than just the next girl group to watch. They are a movement โ€” one that challenges expectations, embraces difference, and shines with undeniable purpose.

As their KCON LA debut made clear, IS:SUE isnโ€™t just stepping onto the global stage. Theyโ€™re owning it.

KCON Performance & McDonald’s Booth Appearance
